13th Alabama Partisan Rangers CS/
3rd Tennessee Cavalry US
Who we are and what we do:
We are the 6th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment CS (dismounted) and the 6th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment US (dismounted). We are eventually going to have mounted units. We have 2 Companies forming at the moment, Co. A, located in Morgan County, AL; and Co. B, located in Cullman County, AL. We re-enact battles of the Civil War in the Southeast. Our Headquarters is based in Eva, AL. We are a family oriented organization. We strive for authenticity, but are not strict.
We have merged with another company, they are the 13th Alabama Partisan Rangers, their US counterpart is the 3rd Tennessee Cavalry. We are peparing to merge with Forrest Escorts and another unit out of Tennessee. We will be 8 Companies strong with about 45 dismounted, an undetermined amount of mounted, and 2 artillery cannons. We will be known as the 13th Alabama Bigade, Forrest's Esorts.
We don't expect someone to go out and buy everything all at once for the sake of being authentic on day one. We know it takes a while to get things built up and don't expect it all to be done immediately. We have some websites available for recruits on options for uniforms and a list of things they will need and things they could do without until later on (or all together). If you are interested in trying the hobby out, we will try our best to outfit you so you can see what it's like.
Some About Us:
We are a small organization at the moment, but we hope to start growing fast pretty soon. We have merged with the 13th Alabama Partisan Ranger. When we split off from them, they will be our sister unit. We help host an event on Labor Day weekend in Decatur, AL that is called "Battle of Decatur". Next year it will be held Saturday, August 30th through Sunday, August 31st. Registration takes place Friday, August 29th. There will be 3 original artillery pieces at the event. It's a great event for family to attend, and hopefully will continue to grow. To find out more info on the event, check out the Decatur CVB's website at http://www.decaturcvb.org/ REGISTER NOW-- IT'S NEVER TO EARLY TO START PLANNING TO ATTEND!
Reenacting:
Reenacting is neat--not many other places can you dress up, step back in time, and not have people look at you funny (well, most of the time, anyway). Some reenactors have the habit of looking at spectators as though the spectators were zoo exhibits since they are dressed so "odd". Everyone does their best to act as though they have either come to the future, the spectators have stepped back in time, or that they don't notice anything modern around them. You have to see it to know the different ways different people act.
If you would like to join...
If you would like to join, it's easy--just send us your name, the name of your first born, your social security number, your credit card numbers and your entire wallet...just kidding ;) All you need to do is email me (the link below) and tell me you're interested in finding out more about us or tell me you want to go ahead and join. There are no requirements about knowing who your ancestors are or anything like that. The only requirement to join is to have an interest in history and reenacting the battles those brave men (from both sides) fought all those years ago. If you still need to be convinced to join, start clicking on the other pages. Have fun!
